Mince Patties and Gravy

Ingredients

500g of Mince
1 onion
1 chicken stock cube (yes chicken with beef. I know …..)
Flour for dusting
Bisto powder
Salt and white pepper

Method
Finely chop the onion, keeping back a small handful for the sauce and add to a bowl with the mince and a chopped up stock cube, salt and pepper and mix well.

Form the mince patties in the palm of your hand and flatten out. Not too big, a heaped tablespoon size. 500g should make about 8 or 9 patties. Set aside on a plate.

Add a cup of flour to a separate plate and season with some more salt and pepper.

Dip the patties in the flour, shaking off excess and return to the plate.

Heat a little oil in a frying pan and add in the patties, they will sizzle and take on colour. Cook on a low heat turning regularly for about 15 minutes until we’ll coloured.

Now you may have a little fat in the pan. A little is ok but remove any more than a spoonful. Add in the small handful of chopped onions, stir and continue to sweat until the onions start to soften.

Add 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of Bisto powder to a cup of cold water. Stir well and add to the pan. The liquid will thicken quite quickly. Keep turning the patties in the sauce for another few minutes and serve with mashed potatoes and veg. …. or even chips, which is my favourite to dip in the sauce.
